Panoramic Rainbow Walkway Illuminates ARoS Museum

Want to see more? View Olafur Eliasson’s “Your rainbow panorama” through the ARoS location page, the “Your rainbow panorama” location page, and the #ARoS hashtag.

Imagine what it would be like to live inside of a rainbow. That is exactly what Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson has created in his rooftop installation, “Your rainbow panorama.” Positioned atop ARoS Aarhus Kunstmuseum, a 10-story art museum located in Århus, Denmark, the elevated walkway yields a spectacular 360-degree view of the city.

Made entirely out of glass with panels in every color of the spectrum, the rainbow installation’s walkway measures 150 meters (492 feet) around. It’s also visible from a great distance throughout the surrounding area, acting as a multicolored compass for those navigating Århus both during the day and at night when spotlights installed in the floor light it up from inside. The project, as Olafur Eliasson explains, inspires a rich dialogue between visual arts and architecture.

One of the better spots to enjoy a bowl of ramen noodles here in New York is Minca, in the East Village. Minca is the kind of place just out of the way enough that as you’re about to get there, you start wondering if you’ve already passed it. A bowl of noodles at Minca isn’t quite as neatly put together as those of other ramen establishments in the city, but it is without a doubt among the tastiest. There’s a home-cooked quality to a bowl of noodles at Minca. And there’s a homey vibe to the restaurant. Minca is a good place to meet a friend and sit and talk and eat and drink, and eat and talk and sit and drink some more.

The last time I was at Minca, I had an especially enjoyable conversation with Walter Chen. Walter is the CEO of a company called iDoneThis, a quiet little service that helps you catalog the things you’ve accomplished each day. iDoneThis sends you a daily email at your specified time, and you simply reply with a list of things you did that day. It’s useful for teams who want to keep track of what everyone is working on, and for individuals who just want to keep track.

I first reached out to Walter because I was mesmerized by this koan at the bottom of the daily emails:

iDoneThis is a part of the slow web movement. After you email us, your calendar is not updated instantaneously. But rest up, and you’ll find an updated calendar when you wake.

iDoneThis is a part of the slow web movement. The Slow Web Movement. I’d never heard that phrase before. I immediately started digging around—and by that I mean I googled “Slow Web Movement”—and the lone relevant search result was a blog post from two years ago. If you run the search again today, you’ll find Walter’s writeup on his company blog, which reflects a lot of what he told me over dinner.

As we talked further, I said to Walter that as soon as I saw “the slow web movement,” I assigned my own meaning to it. Because it’s a great name, and great names are like knots—they’re woven from the same stringy material as other words, but in their particular arrangement, they catch, become junctions to which new threads arrive, from which other threads depart. For me, “The Slow Web” neatly tied together a slew of dangling thoughts.

Sweet things are my weakness and I LOVE puppy chow! I think I might try this using PB2 as a sub for peanut butter

undressedskeleton:

Kitty Chow!

Calories- 100 Total Carbs- 18 Fat -2g Fiber-5g Protein- 2

You know that Puppy chow stuff that is really yummy!? Well it’s also 365 calories a cup! So here is my version but its only 100 calories!

Makes 4 Servings

Ingredients:

2 Cups Fiber one Honey Squares

4 Tablespoons “I can’t believe it’s not butter”

2 Tablespoons Creamy All Natural Peanut Butter

2 Servings Truvia all Natural Sweetener.

1 Package of Fat Free Sugar Free Vanilla Pudding Mix

2 Squares of Reduced Fat Chocolate Almond Bark

Directions

In a large mixing bowl melt butter, chocolate almond bark and peanut butter. (I used the microwave)

After melted pour cereal into mixture. Stir gently

Let the mixture cool for a good 20 minutes.

After mixture has hardened pour the mix into a large zip lock bag, add the box of pudding mix and shake gently until coated.

This is one of the saddest and most impactful...

eupraxsophy:

This is one of the saddest and most impactful videos I’ve seen in some time. A young woman named Olivia Prenpaze made a courageous confession about a very difficult secret: multiple suicide attempts due to a myriad of personal and psychological problems, ranging from bullying and depression, to psychosis and anorexia. She also tried to reassure others that they can fight through their own demons and that they must never bully or harm another person. Despite her despair, she tried to instill hope in others.

Unfortunately, she ended up taking her own life shortly after, on April 3. I had even intended to seek her out and befriend her, just so she could see that others cared. Now she’ll never know.

It pains me to imagine that such a brave and wonderful person is forever gone from this world. I would have liked to have known her, and maybe to have at least tried to help her. I wish so badly that I could save people like this. It saddens me that there are millions of people like her who die and suffer every year, even as I write this, for reasons beyond their control – reasons they did not deserve.

She didn’t ask to be born with a cruel range of mental illnesses that took their toll on her wellbeing. She was a victim of random chance, of a mind whose innate suffering was made worse by the negligence and outright cruelty of the society around her. I can’t imagine being born into a life where I must struggle against my own mind on a daily basis, to say nothing of external forces.

It was a testament to her strength that she pulled through for as long as she did, all the while maintaining an impenetrable façade of happiness. Even the most beautiful and happy people can be suffering immensely underneath.

If anyone reading this ever needs help, I’m here. I don’t care who you are or what the problem is, don’t hesitate to message me. I’ll do everything I can to help you. I wish I could make all this tragedy stop, but I’ll be satisfied if I can save at least one life. That’s as precious as they come.
